Shelby Farms Park visitors can launch their own boats or rent kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards from the boathouse at Hyde Lake during the spring and summer months. Motorized watercraft are not permitted, but kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, sailboats and other personal watercraft (14 feet or less) are encouraged. Starting close to sunset each night, participants can join a relaxing and guided paddle on Hyde Lake concluded with cocktails and farm-to-table treats on the AutoZone Front Porch. A few reminders: No swimming or wading; All boats, including canoes and kayaks, must be equipped with one wearable personal flotation device for each person on board. Poplar Tree Lake Motorized watercraft are not permitted, but kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, sailboats and other personal watercraft (14 feet or less) are encouraged. The closest restroom is located at the Nature Center adjacent to the nearby picnic area.

The asphalt parking lot accommodates approximately 30 vehicles.

Shelby Farms is a great kayaking or canoeing spot for both beginners learning to paddle on calm waters and those with more experience.
